Japan
Japan is a country in the Pacific Region teeming with culture and religion and it is also the home of some of the oldest people on earth.
Japan is an archipelago in East Asia. This country is also known as the Land of the Rising Sun and its capital is Tokyo. Japan is the tenth most populous country in the world and the city of Tokyo is the most populous city with most of its citizens living in its capital – Tokyo City.
Legend says that Japan was created when the sun goddess Jimmu ascended to the throne in 660 B.C. The emperors of Japan were also believed to be the descendants of Jimmu.
The Japanese religion
The Japanese culture is the result of the influences of both China and Korea. This can actually be traced or found in the Japanese literature, music, art, and religion. Shintoism and Buddhism are the two main religions of Japan.
Shintoism is characterized by the veneration of nature as the Japanese strongly believe that spirits reside in the rivers, trees, animals, waterfalls, etc. Japanese built many shrines in honor of these spirits.
Buddhism, on the other hand, reached Japan through China and Korea in the early 552A.D. It has since become the most important religion in Japan. Today, many Japanese people practice both Shintoism and Buddhism, while some others practice other beliefs such as Zen, Shin, Jodo, and Nichire.
Japanese people have the highest lifespan in the world
There are many people in Japan who have ages of more than a century – this means these people have ages of over than a hundred. They have the highest life expectancy in the world. This is believed to be caused by their diet.
Traditional Japanese do not eat much red meat, especially Japanese in the south. They eat fish and vegetables instead. They also have the healthiest lifestyles and maintain healthy ways of living by exercise and meditation. This is believed to be the reason why people in Japan live a lot longer than people in other parts of the world.
